The Dental Startup Roadshow
Tour two real dental startups with the dentists who built them.
Reserve Your SeatI put this event together for dentists who want to understand what it really takes to start a practice.
From the outside, the process can feel intimidating. But I’ve watched a lot of clients go through it, and many of them have built exactly what they had been picturing for years — a practice that is theirs, in a space they chose, with their name on the door.
That’s what I want people to see.
So instead of sitting in a room talking about startups, we’re going to go visit two of them. You’ll meet the dentists who built them, walk through the spaces, hear how they made their decisions, and ask whatever you want.
You don’t need to be ready to start tomorrow. Maybe it’s next year. Maybe it’s five years from now.
Come see what starting a practice actually looks like. I think you’ll walk away realizing it may be a lot more achievable than you thought.

Two different paths to the same goal: opening your own practice.
One bought.
Dr. Cassleman · St. Clair Shores
Dr. Cassleman bought her building as part of the startup itself — not a lease first and a purchase years later. She is coming up on ten years in the same space now, which means she can tell you what she got right, what she would change, and what (almost) a decade of ownership actually looks like on the other side.
One leased.
Dr. Nye · Brush Park, Detroit
Dr. Nye opened Brushery in January 2024 in a new-construction building downtown. He is close enough to it to still remember the numbers — what the buildout ran, where the surprises came from, and which decisions he made under time pressure that he would make differently now.
We start and end at Elephant & Co. in Detroit, directly behind the Masonic Temple.

Not a lecture. These are the things that come up every time someone starts a practice, and we will get into them where they actually apply — standing in the rooms where the decisions were made.
When to start the conversation, and why earlier is almost always better than you think.
Finding the right market, and what the demographics can and cannot tell you about it.
There are pros and cons to both. Which is the best path for you?
How the floor plan drives everything downstream — patient flow, staffing, and what the space can become later.
Who pays for what, how long it really takes, and where the surprises come from.
Planning it before the walls go up, instead of after.
Dental residents and associate dentists within ten years of dental school graduation who are considering starting their own practice.
Yes. Plenty of people exploring ownership are currently employed somewhere else. Attendee names and registration information are kept confidential, are not displayed publicly, and are not shared with employers.
Boarding opens at 12:30. The bus leaves at 1:00 and we cannot hold it — both practices are expecting us at a set time. Give yourself a buffer for parking.
The lot at 506 Charlotte St. is about a minute’s walk and can be reserved through ParkMobile. Street parking is sometimes available. Parking is not included, so plan for it.
We would rather you rode with us. A good part of the value is the conversation between stops — that is where most of the real questions get asked.
No CE credit is currently offered for this event.
Admission is complimentary and seating is limited. If your plans change, please cancel your registration so the seat can go to someone on the waitlist.
Whatever you would wear to meet a colleague. You will be walking through two working practices and standing for part of the afternoon.
